Price: Compare the Plan You Actually Need

The US App Store currently lists Room Scanner's annual Pro purchase at $49.99, and RoomScan Pro LiDAR's annual purchase at $119.99. Room Scanner's monthly purchase is listed at $5.99; RoomScan's listing describes a monthly subscription and shows $9.99 LiDAR purchases. Taxes, regional pricing, trials and offers can differ.

Before paying, list the exports and capture modes you need. A lower subscription price is only useful if the app can produce a file your recipient accepts. Try the relevant workflow and review the current purchase terms, including renewal and cancellation, in the App Store.

Room Scanner is free to start. Its Pro tools include CAD exports and additional report/editor features; the current app and export sheet show which actions need Pro or an ad. RoomScan Classic is a separate Locometric product, so do not confuse its offer with RoomScan Pro LiDAR.

Scanning: How Each App Captures a Room

In Room Scanner, capture the room with LiDAR, review the resulting plan and model, and correct the details that need attention. Locometric lists Brick Mode, Apple RoomPlan and Touch Mode, along with exterior capture and laser-measure connections. Its support FAQ is a useful starting point for questions about those workflows. Confirm the mode and connected device you need before subscribing.

Using the same phone sensor does not establish equal accuracy. Reconstruction software, capture conditions, editing and reference points can all affect the finished plan. A 2021 iPhone LiDAR study examined small objects and a coastal cliff; it was not a head-to-head test of these two apps. We do not have a controlled comparison that establishes a winner or a shared tolerance.

Output: 2D, 3D and What You Can Do With It

Room Scanner lets you inspect the 2D plan and 3D model, edit dimensions and openings, and keep measurements, notes and photos with the plan. Locometric's documentation describes floor plans and 3D output, photo/notes workflows and plan annotation. Decide what your recipient needs to see: editable geometry, a readable PDF, measurement notes or a particular estimating-system file. A preview that looks right is only the first check.

Export Formats

Room Scanner's export options include PDF, PNG, USDZ and JSON, with DXF, SVG and additional report/schedule formats available through Pro. Check the current export sheet for access and options.

RoomScan Pro's listing includes PDF and DXF as well as IFC, Xactimate ESX, FML and other specialist formats. Confirm the exact format and importer version with your recipient before choosing an app.

Test one representative export before capturing an entire property:

1. Open it in the software where it will be used.
2. Check units, scale, orientation and room labels.
3. Compare critical dimensions with independent measurements taken between the same endpoints.
4. Review openings, room joins and any information the file does not carry across.

Device Support

Both listings are for Apple devices. A LiDAR capture mode requires a device with that sensor; check the listing for the exact hardware and OS requirements. Room Scanner supports manual room dimensions when LiDAR is unavailable, while Locometric describes Touch Mode for capture without LiDAR.

Consider RoomScan Pro LiDAR if the additional capture methods, exterior workflow, laser-measure integration or specialist formats are central to your work.

Is Room Scanner the same app as RoomScan Pro?

No. Room Scanner is made by Grumsen Development ApS; RoomScan Pro LiDAR is made by Locometric. Their names are similar, but purchases and support are separate.

Is there a free version of RoomScan Pro?

RoomScan Pro LiDAR is free to download with subscription purchases. Check its current offer for what you can try. Room Scanner is also free to download, with paid features identified in the app.

Which is more accurate, Room Scanner or RoomScan Pro?

We have not run a controlled comparison, so we cannot name an accuracy winner. Check the same reference dimensions in each resulting plan and review the export. Sensor specifications alone do not establish a finished plan's accuracy.

Does Room Scanner export to DXF like RoomScan Pro?

Yes, DXF is available with Room Scanner Pro. Confirm units and scale after opening the file in your CAD software, and check whether your task also requires information carried by a different format.

Can either app scan without LiDAR?

Locometric describes Touch Mode for devices without LiDAR. Room Scanner can create a plan from dimensions you type; that is manual entry, not a camera scan.

What is a good RoomScan Pro alternative?
